Photo Frame Size Guide

All of our photo sizes are given in inches. (A standard sized wine bottle is included in the images below as a comparison.)

All of the sizes shown on this site are the photo size, so if you wish for your photo to be printed at 18"x12", simply select that size when placing your order, and the actual finished frame size will be even larger, to accomodate the photo and the mount.

How Large Can I Print My Digital Photo?

Use our new photo print size calculator to find out. Simply enter the pixel dimensions of your photo in the spaces below.

Our frames are strung to hang either landscape or portrait, depending upon the image you send. If the image's orientation is ambiguous please let us know which way you want us to string the frame when you email us the file.

Most digital cameras produce files in a 4:3 width/height ratio. However, some produce images in the traditional 3:2 ratio (most DSLRs, for example).

Photo sizes best suited for most digital cameras:

Digital Camera Photo Size Guide

Figures (10x8, 18x12, etc.) are the photo sizes, not the finished frame sizes, which will be larger to accomodate the photo and mount. The images show the finished frames above the sizes of the photos that they hold.

Traditional 3:2 photo sizes best suited for DSLR cameras, and other cameras that output files in this ratio.

A note on the photo sizes that we offer:

Feel free to order any of the photo sizes that we offer. We have distinguished between the two groups of sizes as a guide, but most photos are suitable for printing in any of the above sizes. However, we may have to crop images that don't fit exactly in the above sizes. Alternatively, if the image is unsuitable to crop (i.e. if an important part of the image is right at the side and would have to be removed), we may print the photo at a slightly different size to accommodate this, and build your frame to suit. Either way, we will ensure that your photo is printed and framed to its maximum advantage.

A note on camera file sizes, megapixel rating and image quality.

Most modern digital cameras produce photo files of a sufficient quality to be enlarged right up to our maximum size of 30"x20", providing they are used on their best image quality setting. Older digital cameras, or cameras in mobile phones, do not produce such detailed images, and we recommend that for files produced by cameras with 3.2 megapixel rating or lower customers should only order the smallest photo frames that we produce.

If you are unsure whether your image is suitable for enlargement or not, please contact us, or email your photo without buying a frame. We will be happy to let you know if we are able to print to your desired size, or if not, the size that we recommend you order. We can also suggest frame styles and mount colours! Email us your query with the photo.

If you are confused about any of the above information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to offer advice about any aspect of our service, and will even recommend frame styles and mount colours for your photos if desired.
